Lincolne keeps a spelling most families let go of centuries ago, and behind it sits one of the oldest place-names in Britain. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Lincolne family crest against the Irish National Tartan.
History & Heritage
The city that gave the surname its name was called Lindum Colonia by the Romans — a settlement for retired legionaries built beside a pool, the Brittonic lindo. Fifteen hundred years of ordinary speech wore Lindum Colonia down to Lincoln. Families who came from the city carried its name with them, into England first and then into Ireland with early modern settlement. The terminal e in Lincolne is the older written form, kept by branches that never modernized it, and it is now scarce enough that it does most of the work of identifying a family on its own.
Woven Craftsmanship
Nothing is printed onto this cloth. The crest and tartan are formed as 100% premium cotton yarn is woven, and the blanket is finished with a traditional fringe.
