Lawder comes out of the Scottish Borders, from the town of Lauder in Berwickshire, and crossed into Ireland with the settlement of Ulster. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Lawder family crest against the Irish National Tartan.
History & Heritage
Border families lived on a frontier that changed hands regularly, and their names traveled with them. Lauder was a burgh on the Leader Water, and the surname it produced spread through Berwickshire and the Lothians before following the seventeenth-century movement across the North Channel. The w in Lawder is the older Scots spelling, closer to how the name was said than to how it is now written, and it survives mainly in branches that left Scotland early. In Irish records the two forms sit side by side, and a single family can hold both within living memory.
