Laurence is a given name that became a surname, and in Ireland it belongs first of all to the patron saint of Dublin. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Laurence family crest against the Irish National Tartan.
History & Heritage
The name descends from the Latin Laurentius, a man of Laurentum, a town that took its own name from the laurel. It reached Ireland with the church and with Norman settlement, and it took root here through Lorcán Ua Tuathail — Laurence O'Toole — who was Archbishop of Dublin during the Norman invasion, stood between the Irish kings and the newcomers, and was canonized in 1225. He remains the patron saint of the city. Families carrying Laurence as a surname are recorded across Leinster and Munster, the name having passed from font to family in the ordinary way: a son named for a saint, a grandson named for the father.
Woven Craftsmanship
Woven in 100% premium cotton, with the crest and tartan formed by the yarn itself rather than laid on the surface, and finished with traditional fringed edges.
