Lany is what remains of a much longer Gaelic name after four centuries of shortening. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Lany family crest against the Irish National Tartan.
History & Heritage
The original is Ó Dubhshláine — descendant of Dubhshláine, a personal name built from dubh, black, and Sláine, the river Slaney. Woulfe records the family as a numerous one in Leix, now County Laois, formerly chiefs of Coill Uachtarach at the foot of Slieve Bloom. Anglicization worked at the name for generations — O'Dowlaney, O'Dulany, Delaney, Delany, Laney, and finally Lany — each step shedding a little more. A separate Norman line, taking its name from the alder grove, carried a similar sound into England, and the two have been confused ever since. In Ireland it is the Gaelic root that matters.
Woven Craftsmanship
The crest and tartan are woven into the cloth in 100% premium cotton rather than printed onto it, which is why the detail survives washing that would fade a print. Traditional fringed edges finish it.
